Playing on the latest Mario Kart Update with wave three of the DLC courses. Online tournament lobbies & single vs. races can tweak new settings that will allow players to set what items are allowed for the races. When I saw everyone play with blue shells only, the first-place racer get hammered with blue shells, along with anyone in the blast radius. I wondered, how much longer is it with the blue shells, along with Bullet Bills as they speed players up to catch up and get a couple places ahead than players were before.

To conduct my experiment, I timed four courses on the DLC tracks that I loved growing up on Mario Kart on the Nintendo DS & Wii: Coconut Mall (Wii), Waluigi Pinball (DS), Maple Treeway (Wii), & Peach Gardens (DS). Obviously, the times will be much slower for blue shells only due to getting consistently getting bombarded by shells when each of the twelve racers gets item boxes, I would say by a lap time longer. Bullet Bills are much faster and you would only get hit if your bullet time runs out and someone behind your bullet is still activated, I would say slightly shorter times by a few seconds in comparison to time trails.

These are my times with time trial, all items vs. race, Blue Shells only, and Bullet Bill only.

Time Trail All Items Blue Shell Bullet Bill

Cocconut Mall 2:15 2:30 3:46 1:57
Waluigi Pinball 2:50 3:06 4:25 2:53
Maple Treeway 2:56 3:07 4:36 2:51
Peach Gardens 2:33 2:54 4:26 2:33

Blue Shells are roughly a lap time longer than time trials. Bullet Bills are roughly the same times as the time trials. However, I am not sure if my Coconut Mall time was a fluke as it is 18 seconds faster than the time trial. On some of the runs, I forgot to start the timer, so I had to retry the timed run. I definitely want to do more only items & combinations to see how chaotic it is and the times as well.
