In this video, I am doing a bicycle POV from the Tustin Marketplace shopping center to the Orange County Great Park via the bike lanes of the city of Irvine’s Irvine Boulevard, a large six-lane street road. I drove with my foldable bike from Anaheim to Tustin and parked at the Tustin Marketplace’s Target parking lot. I unfolded my bike from the back of the car, pressed record on my GoPro Hero 9, and made my way to the Great Park.

The bike lanes are pretty wide in comparison to the city I reside in, Anaheim, where there are narrow to no bike lanes, which is really dangerous. However, Irvine Boulevard’s bike lane does narrow and had road construction. I fell off my bicycle at 08:30 in the video as I saw that the curb for the sidewalk dropped and I thought I could jump it, however, I wiped out and sprained my knee a bit in the process, but I was okay, along with my GoPro and bike. Later at 15:00, an SUV driver pulled out of a shopping center and was not paying attention to me & the oncoming traffic. I had to yell at him to pay attention. Oh, the joys of cycling in a car-oriented society, if we had better transit, we would need super wide roadways like this.
Then I continued down Irvine Boulevard pretty smoothly, however, the width of the bike lane varied but was okay. Things were a bit interesting at 28:12, by CA Highway Tollway 133 as there weren’t any defined bike lanes with the northbound on-ramp approach lanes.
Then the road goes into the former Marine Air Force Base El Toro, decommissioned in 1999, where the Irvine residents decide to make it into parkland and housing development. The Great Park is home to Championship Stadium for the Orange County Soccer Club USL soccer team, a teacher helium balloon, a carousel, several converted airplane hangers for art galleries & museums, plenty of sports fields, Five point Ice rink & amphitheater, a community gardens, Wild Rivers water park, and so many more. Did you know that the city of Irvine’s local road names are just names and the article street roads get the street road name designations? I.E. Irvine Boulevard is a six-lane major roadway, which receives the destination, while local roads like Bosque do not since it is a road connecting residential areas.
